3 Suggestions For Adult World Book Day Costumes

  • Harry Potter Costumes
There are lots of opportunity for grownups costumes in the Harry Potter Universe. For example, you could choose one of the many characters that teach at the Hogwarts School? However, there’s no rule that says you cannot dress up as a character that’s older or younger, after all school children could dress up as the headmaster Dumbledore, so if you’re a big fan of Harry Potter and you want to share this with your children, why not dress up as Harry Potter the boy who lived for World Book Day this year? Our online fancy dress shop has a fantastic Harry Potter Gryffindor Robe in our Harry Potter collection, as well as other themed fancy dress products, so you’ll be spoiled for choice, after all Harry Potter has a diverse cast with characters of different ages, genders, and backgrounds; including Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Luna, Tonks, Dean, Cho, and loads more wonderful characters.

  • Folklore Characters
Folklore and pop-culture are filled with memorable characters, many of which have ascended from their literature origins. So dressing up as one of these folklore characters might be a superb way to inspire children (and possibly some grownups) to explore the literature behind the character. For example, Red Riding Hood appears in many different books, novels, and short stories, in addition to the plethora of visual adaptations of the character. However, did you know whilst many people associate fairy tales with the Brothers Grimm, There Are 58 Versions of Little Red Riding Hood, “some 1,000 years older than the Brothers Grimm's”. • Something From Your Favourite Book
When dressing up in fancy dress for World Book Day, remember that this is a superb opportunity to introduce children to the joys of reading. You might consider some of your favourite books from childhood, such as the masterpieces written by Roald Dahl, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The BFG. After all, us generation after a generation were read Dahl’s books to them as children, who in turn grow up, have children of their own and read them the same stories they enjoyed when they were little.

Alternatively, if your children or your students are a little older; World Book Day is a great opportunity to introduce them to fiction aimed at an older audience. So perhaps you could wear a costume inspired by one of your favourite books, possibly inspiring some children to read something from one of your favourite authors. For example, if you’re a fan of the works of J. R. R. Tolkien you might consider wearing a fancy dress costume inspired by one of the novels, such as the three books within The Lord of The Rings, or The Hobbit? In fact, as The Hobbit is a tale of adventure, friendship, and bravery; it’s a great choice for parents to read to their children. Who knows, maybe your introduction to the masterful writings of Tolkien will be so successful next year your child will want to dress up as a Tolkien character, like this Boys Thorin Oakenshield Set?
